The property
at 690 De Haro Street included a sanctuary for birds
and butterflies, a footpath, and a hundred year-old house. Ineligible
for landmark status because of past remodeling, the house and grounds
were sold to developers. The old house was removed for construction
of condominiums. The garden on the property, which is located next
to a beautiful stairway, was mostly lost. A stroll up the adjoining hill,
an unpaved block of 19th Street, reveals a novelty, #1919 19th, a private
residence. Novel, unless you live at 2020 20th Street.
