Mister SF snapped this other worldly photo featuring vampire Mina Harker at the Bay Guardian's "Best of the Bay" celebration at the Ruby Skye nightclub, 420 Mason, on August 8, 2003. Full Frame |
Mina
Harker is the alter ego of San Francisco playwright and self
proclaimed
vampire, Kitty Burns. Mina is the guide for a ghoulish and sometimes
campy
tour through Nob Hill that turns San Francisco legends on their pointy
ears. Do vampires have pointy ears? At any rate, Mina's flight through
the pages of City history includes the skinny on Count Dracula's
affiliation
with Emperor Norton, cannibals at Grace Cathedral, tunnels under the
Pacific
Union Club, and ghosts at the Fairmont to name just a few. The 127 year
old undead Mina (who doesn't look a day over 110) has haunted the City
since the Gold Rush while Kitty is a 40 year resident. Another claim to
fame for Kitty is that she's the owner of the autographed program and
untorn
tickets from the Beatles final performance that reside at the Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. The Fab Four's final public
appearance
was at Candlestick Park on August 29, 1966. Kitty attended the concert
and got the rare memorabilia with the help of her father, an airline
manager
and one of Mina's favorite mortals.
