    Wedstock:
On Thursday, March 11, 2004, the California Supreme Court ordered an immediate
halt to marriage licenses for same-sex couples in San Francisco. Up to
600 demonstrators gathered at Market and Castro Streets at dusk for a march to
Civic Center. More than 4,000 marriage licenses were issued to same-sex
couples since Feb. 12. The court ruling prevents further licenses from
being issued until the court hears arguments on the legality of Mayor
Gavin Newsom's decision not to discriminate against gay couples. - HD
