The
Red Room is among San Francisco's newest institutions. Opened in 1996
at 827 Sutter Street, this joint avoided becoming a fad bar by serving
great drinks. Only premium liquor is served here, even in well drinks.
Juices are freshly squeezed and "cosmic cocktails" are the specialty of
the house. Patrons taking in the scene here are attracted by the cosmopolitans
as much as by Fun Display Design's scarlet decor. The glow here and some
rich details surprise anyone expecting just a flat red paint job. Fun Display
also decorated the Backflip bar
in the Tenderloin. Situated next door to the Commodore Hotel, which is
experiencing a renaissance after its own remodeling, The Red Room attracts
music world visitors such as recent guest Mary J. Blige.
