New and Venerable Institutions: London Taxis

Early in 2004, San Francisco celebrated the arrival of a dozen custom-built London Taxis. The taxis, square and black, are an elegant addition to the streets of San Francisco. Like cresting cable cars, they provide memorable silhouettes for tourists, photographers and all admirers of the cityscape. According to Taxi Commission President Arthur Jackson, the spacious interiors were designed to accommodate wearers of top hats! Mister SF takes a spin courtesy of the commission's representative, Kelly Castagnaro, the charming San Franciscan sometimes known as Ms. Castro District. The new taxis have been added to the fleets of both the Luxor and Royal cab companies.
