a predominantly Irish, working class enclave, the Castro rose
as the center of gay life in the 1970s. Today the neighborhood more
closely resembles a gay theme park than a leftist ghetto. The Castro
boasts terrific coffeehouses, boutique stores, Chinese food, Mexican
food, burgers and more. |
