According to former inmate Darwin Coon, who frequently signs copies of his book "Alcatraz: The True End of the Line" at the museum store, there was no Top Dog at Alcatraz. "Everyone was an individual," Coon says, "There were no gangs." A kitchen mafia, broken up by the warden, may have pre-dated his stay. Coon, a convicted bank robber, was among the last group of men to leave the prison in 1963. Coon says he's found peace through God after surviving the harshest prisons in America. |
