Planetweavers
was the import gift boutique with locations at 1573 Haight Street
and 518A Castro Street. The "world goods" store was a popular
depot for artisan candles, yoga mats, tranquility fountains, tiles,
trays, toys, books, metal sculpture, and just about anything that
might remind shoppers of the gifts they could get for pennies on the
dollar while traveling abroad if they didn't mind schlepping the stuff
home. Owner Andreas Blachian consolidate his two stores into the Castro
location after 17 years, but sales continued a long decline. The Castro
store closed on February 29, 2008.
