In 2002, the Philosopher's Club, a longtime neighborhood institution at 824 Ulloa Street in West Portal became West Portal Station. New proprietors say they'll keep the original sign, but if you call 411 and ask for the Philosopher's Club, "you won't find nothin'." It's fitting that the pub will continue but not continue, posing just the kind of riddle that might entertain an introspective saloony - or an existential philosopher! |
