The
Triton Hotel on Grant Avenue at Bush Street is one of many locations
including the Airtouch Building (One California Street), BART, and Mission
District sidewalks that appear in Josh Kornbluth's
Haiku Tunnel.
Adapted from his successful monologue developed with the great San Francisco
dramaturge David Ford, Haiku Tunnel is Kornbluth's take on his years as
a secretary in the Bay Area legal field. Working for the fictional firm
of Schyler and Mitchell (S&M), Kornbluth copes with the trials and
travails of life as a temp. Though the film doesn't have much to say, most
working people will find its details very, very funny. S&M is reportedly
a stand-in for Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro (PMS), a firm for which Kornbluth
temped before launching his stage show. Plot centers around Josh's attempt
to finish "17 very important letters" for boss man Bob. The 2001 film is
directed by Josh Kornbluth and his brother, Jacob Kornbluth and features
many talented locals including Brian Thorstenson and Joshua Raoul Brody.
