The great glass
elevators that loom over the cavernous honeycomb atrium of the Hyatt
Regency are just one source of High Anxiety for Mel Brooks. The
1977 satire is Brooks' homage to Alfred Hitchcock. Brooks, who directed
and also co-authored the screenplay (with Tom Clark, Rudy DeLuca, and Barry
Levinson) plays Dr. Richard H. Thorndyke of the Psychoneurotic Institute
for the Very, Very Nervous. When he finds himself framed for murder, Thorndyke
must confront his demons in order to clear his name. Brooks regular Madeline
Kahn appears, as well as Cloris Leachman and Harvey Korman as Nurse Diesel
and Dr. Montague.
